One song often inspires another This one comes from an old traditional fiddle tune. Fans of folk may recognize a story line similar to The Ballad of St Anne’s Reel. Then again, maybe not. I like the way the song references the melody between versus. This song speaks to vanishing America ,neon, country music roadhouses and the lonely life of a trucker making his way down the highway. What sets this apart is the story is told between a melody line plucked out with a Travis pick’n style. The instrumental completely stands on it’s own .I’ve had the tune around while and have recorded an instrumental version some years back . Only recently did I add the lyrics. This is a story from the back pages of America’s highway, before mega franchised road stops, and eight lane highways. You can hear the influences of Merle Travis , Doc Watson, and Chet Atkins as the fingerstyle guitar carries the story along.
“Last gas town , back east bound ,time to wind thissemi down, neon’s flashing eat ,I go on in” Hope you all will give it a listen.
